This blog comes a week after an historic election. This election saw a party(the GOP)who was written off as dead two years ago emerge as the new majority in the house of representatives. And not only that but they cut into the democrats huge majority in the senate and won back several key governorships. Despite this huge wave in favor of the GOP, I must concur with several pundits out there who say that this wasn't a vote of support for Republicans but a vote against Obama and Pelosi's Liberal agenda.
Because this wasn't a vote of support for the GOP they will be walking a thin line the next two years. If they stray even a little from their principles this time they'll be done for good. So having said all that I have some suggestions, a list of the top 5 things the Republicans should do come January:
1) Put a freeze on spending immediately. Cut congressional salaries, and do away with all earmarks.
2) Pass a bill that requires no bill to exceed 100 pages if it is to be brought before the floor for passage. Also require that each bill must have a window before passage of at least 5 days so that everyone(congressman or citizen)will have time to read it before hand. Which would give time for feedback from anyone who doesn't like what's in the bill.
3) Pass congressional term limits for all incoming freshman Representatives and Senators from this point forward. This would allow for new blood and fresh ideas.
4) Audit the Fed. Need I say more.
5) Commit to Bipartisan spending cuts. For the GOP: look to cut NPR's funding, overhaul Obamacare, and cutting the federal government payroll in terms of the growing number of federal jobs. For the Dems: Get us out of the Afghan war.
These suggestions would be a good place to start for the GOP. It would show that they really have learned there lesson and will not abandon their principles again.
That's all for now. Until next time,
Chesswiz77 is out.
