Monday, December 6th 2010 could be a very significant date for the Obama Presidency. It's the day Obama started making the move to the center, much like former President Bill Clinton did following his midterm disaster in '94. He has agreed in terms with the Republicans, who won back the house a month ago,to extend the Bush era Tax cuts in their entirety while getting unemployment benefits extended in the process. He also found agreement with Republicans on other tax issues such as Social Security, Estate tax, Earned Income tax and Child tax credits. Much of what was offered pleased the Republicans and upset Democrats. This looks to be a signal that Obama will be more realistic like Clinton than stubborn as a mule like former President Jimmy Carter was. However this is but one day. One day. As good a day as it was for those of us who understand that taxing anyone at this time is crazy, it needs to be more than a gesture on Obama's part. He needs to come before the American people and acknowledge that his policies weren't unpopular because he didn't communicate properly but because they were too far to the left. Then in order to assure us that the government will function properly for the next two years he needs to put the Democratic leadership in both houses in line. Meaning: No more secret closed-door meetings. When you ask Republicans to come to the table and put forth their input on tv you follow through on it when you're not. If Obama does all this then maybe, just maybe he might salvage the rest of his Presidency and be re-elected just like Clinton.
Until next time,
Chesswiz77 is out.
