A Rendezvous with Destiny: And Who will Take us There?

Today marks the 100th birthday of our 40th President Ronald Reagan. All this past week I've been watching memorable stories about the man and what it was that made him one of our greatest Presidents of the last century. Here was a man who saw the best in his country, that believed in the hand of providence and that America had a larger calling in the world. Due to these beliefs he helped propel the Soviet Union into a spiral that ultimately lead to their collapse. And America was for a brief period of time seen as that Shining City on a Hill. But as most of us know things have changed a lot since Reagan left office. America has lost a lot of respect around the world, and some in this country have nothing but disdain for what it represents. It's in this time of great uncertainty and turmoil that America now looks for leadership. The kind of leadership that inspires and restores confidence in the American way. In a nutshell they're looking for the next Ronald Reagan.

In 2008, nearly 70 million Americans believed that was to be Barrack Obama with his "Yes We Can" and "Change we can believe in" slogans. But 2-years later and we find ourselves in the same sticky predicament. So the question is if not Obama, then who. Who can America turn to that sees the best in us, can inspire us to be more than what we are, and can fully restore America to that shining city on a hill who has a rendezvous with destiny that Reagan envisioned? Is it Palin, Romney, Huckabee, or maybe even Hillary Clinton? While I respect each and everyone of those I mentioned, yes even Hillary, I believe the next Reagan will emerge from the local level. That person will be like Rep. Gabrielle Gifford(D-Az), who from what I've gathered during all the news coverage was someone who didn't shy away from her constituents. And based on the testimony of her colleagues was someone who got along with everybody, Republicans and Democrats. Doesn't that sound like someone all Americans could get behind? I think so.

This is something we as Americans need to think about, because you know how the 20th century is known as our greatest century. Well if we don't turn things around and soon, the 21st will be our last century.

Until Next Time,
Chesswiz77 is out.

P.S. Happy 100th Birthday President Reagan, your legacy will live on.
